Number lines with empty boxes: write the missing numbers, then read the whole line again.
Completing the number line means knowing the sequence of numbers in order. Each empty box takes the number that comes after the one before it. This way, the child links the spoken counting rhyme to the written digits. Completing the number line to 10 strengthens a key landmark of the last year of preschool.
Each game has five questions. First, a voice reads the instruction. Then the child sees a number line from 1 to 9 with empty boxes. They write the missing numbers. Then they read the whole line again, from the first number to the last. If some of the boxes are right, they earn partial points.
At home, write a number line from 1 to 10 on cards. For example, turn two cards over and ask which numbers are hiding. Then shuffle all the cards and let your child put them back in order. Finally, ask them to read the line out loud.
This review game suits children aged 5 to 6, in the last year of preschool. It is free on computer, tablet and phone.
First, put your finger on the first number of the line. Then count as you move along: one box, one number. When you reach an empty box, say the number that comes just after. Then write it. Finally, read the whole line again, from the first number to the last. Can you hear the counting rhyme? Then your line is right!
