About this game

Count cups, hamburgers, hams or bananas, then touch the group that has one more. For practice.

Add 1 from 1 to 9: find the number that comes just after

Adding 1 means discovering that the next number holds one more unit. In the last year of preschool, the child links the counting rhyme and the quantity: saying the next number is the same as adding one object. This idea lays the foundations of addition. To add 1 from 1 to 9, the child relies on what they can already count.

Each game has five questions. First, a voice reads the instruction. Then the child counts the cups, hamburgers, hams or bananas in the picture. Next, they choose the group that has one more. They practise freely, with no grade, and a progress bar follows their answers.

At home, play with real objects. For example, put down four strawberries, then add one. Ask: “How many now?” Then have your child say the next number without counting again. This way, the child learns to add 1 from 1 to 9 in their head.

This game is for children aged 5 to 6, in the last year of preschool. It is free on computer, tablet and phone.

Tip for adding 1: say the next number

First, count the objects in the picture. For example, you find five cups. Then say the number that comes just after: six! Next, look for the group that has six cups. Count them with your finger to check. One more is always the next number. Finally, choose the right group. You can add 1!
