About this game

Count up to 3 objects placed in a ten frame. The right answer appears after each question.

Count to 3 in a ten frame: neatly arranged objects

Counting scattered objects is not easy. On the other hand, neatly arranged objects help the child not to forget any. This game offers counting to 3 in a ten frame. This grid of ten boxes gently prepares the idea of ten. Later, the child will see at a glance what is missing to make ten.

A game has five questions, read aloud. In the grid, one, two or three objects fill some boxes. The child counts them, then chooses the right number. They have only one try. Then the right answer appears straight away. This way, the adult sees at once what the child can do.

To prepare the game, draw a grid of two rows of five boxes. Then put counters or bottle caps in it, one per box. For example, ask: “How many boxes are full?” Next, have your child count to 3 in the ten frame, then add or take away a counter.

This game is for children aged 4 to 5, in preschool. It is free online, on computer, tablet or phone.

Tip for counting in the grid

Look at the grid: it has lots of boxes. But they are not all full! Put your finger on each object, only once. At the same time, say: one, two, three. The last word tells how many there are. Then choose the number. Finally, look at the right answer that appears: it helps you with the next question.
