Count animals and choose their number on the number line from 1 to 6.
To count to 6, a child in the last year of preschool readily relies on the number line. Each box shows the number and the dots of a dice. This way, the child links three things: the word they say, the quantity and the written number. Making these links builds number sense, at the heart of early math.
The game starts straight away with five questions. First, a voice reads the instruction. Then the child counts animals, from 1 to 6, and chooses their number on the line. A progress bar shows how far they have come. And no sound covers the voice.
Before playing, draw a number line from 1 to 6 on a sheet of paper. For example, line up six spoons and count them together, touching each one only once. Then say: “The last word I say is how many there are.” Finally, put your finger on the 6 of the line. This last-word principle helps a lot to count to 6 without mistakes.
This game is for children aged 5 to 6, in the last year of preschool. It is free on computer, tablet and phone.
First, touch each animal with your finger. Touch it only once. Say the numbers out loud: one, two, three… Then listen to the last number you say. It tells you how many animals there are. Next, find that number on the line. Look at the dots of the dice in the box too. Finally, choose the right box. You can count to 6!
