About this game

A big picture of the school playground: count the ball, the blocks, the buildings, the children, the trees and the slides.

Collect information in a scene: the school playground

Collecting information in a scene means sorting before counting. A big picture mixes lots of things. So the child has to choose one kind of object, count it, then move on to the next. This work links counting and reading a picture, two goals of the last year of preschool.

The game fits on a single screen. First, a voice reads the instruction. Then the child looks at the school playground: a ball, blocks, buildings, children, trees and slides. They count each kind, from 1 to 6, then write its number in the box. If only some of the answers are right, they earn partial points.

Before playing, look at a picture book with your child. For example, ask how many birds there are, then how many houses. This way, they learn to collect information in a scene without mixing everything up. Also have them count with their finger so they don’t miss anyone.

This review game suits children aged 5 to 6, in the last year of preschool. It is free on computer, tablet and phone.

Tip for counting one thing at a time

Don’t count everything at once! First, look for just one kind of thing: the ball. Then move on to the blocks, then the buildings. Touch each object with your finger. This way, you don’t miss any. Say the number, then write it on its line. Finally, move on to the next kind, all the way to the slides.
