About this game

Count cups, hamburgers, hams or bananas, then look for the group that has one more.

One more up to 5: find the number that comes right after

Adding an object means moving one step forward in the number sequence. After three comes four; after four comes five. The game “one more up to 5” makes this link tangible in the last year of preschool. This way, the child discovers they don’t need to count everything again. They just have to say the next number.

A round has five questions. First, a voice asks the child to count the objects in a picture: cups, hamburgers, hams or bananas. There are from one to four. Then the child chooses the group that has one more. The hint invites them to keep counting, just one number further.

To prepare for this game, put three toy hamburgers or three blocks on the table. Then add one and say: “three… four!” For example, do it with steps: three steps, then one more. Also show on a number line that adding one means moving forward one box.

This game is for the last year of preschool, around ages 5 and 6. It is free online, on a computer, tablet or phone.

Tip for finding one more

First, count the objects in the picture by touching them. For example, you say “three”. Don’t stop! Say the next number: four. That’s one more. Next, look for the group that has four objects. Finally, choose it. You can also hold up one more finger on your hand.
