About this game

Three additions: choose the one that makes the number asked for, up to 10. The right answer appears after each question.

Find the addition up to 10 that makes the number asked for

In the first year of primary school, a number like 7 can be written 5 + 2, 4 + 3 or 6 + 1. Recognizing these number bonds helps the child calculate faster. This game asks them to find the addition up to 10 that gives a precise number. This way, the child compares several calculations instead of doing just one.

The game announces a number and reads the instruction aloud. Then three additions appear. The child chooses the one that makes the number asked for. They have a single try per question. Then the game shows the right answer straight away. A round has 8 questions, with a progress bar.

The hint suggests working out each addition on the fingers: the first number on one hand, the second on the other. Then the child counts all the fingers. At home, write three additions on cards. For example, ask which one makes 8, then check together with counters.

This game is for the first year of primary school, for children aged 6 to 7. Finally, finding the addition up to 10 strengthens the number bonds that are useful for mental math. It is free on a computer, tablet or phone.

Tip for finding the addition up to 10

Take the first addition. First, put the first number on one hand. Then put the second number on the other hand. Count all your fingers. Do you find the right number? Choose that addition! If not, try the next addition with your fingers. Take your time: every addition is checked the same way.
