About this game

Start from a month of the year and find what next month will be, out of the twelve months.

Months of the year: finding next month in the first year of primary school

A year has twelve months, from January to December. Knowing them in order helps children understand birthdays, seasons and school holidays. Finding next month means moving forward one month. And after December, a new year begins with January.

The game says, for example: “This month is November. What is next month?” Then three months appear. Your child chooses the month after. A short lesson comes first, with the twelve months in order. Then a sentence explains each answer: “After November comes December.” A round has eight questions, read aloud.

The hint suggests saying the months of the year in order, starting from January. Twelve names is a lot: take your time, and count them on your fingers if needed.

At home, look at a calendar together and find the birthday month of each family member. Then ask: “What will next month be?” What’s more, a song about the months of the year helps a lot. The game is for ages 6 to 7. It is free on a computer, tablet or phone.

Tip for finding next month

Say the months in order: January, February, March… Stop on this month. Next month is the month after: the next one you say. For example, after March comes April. And after December? A new year begins: next month will be January!
