About this game

Two numbers from 1 to 5: choose the bigger one. The right answer appears after each question.

Find the bigger number in the last year of preschool: from amount to written number

In the last year of preschool, the child slowly moves from amounts to written numbers. They already know how to compare two piles of objects. Now they compare two numbers, with nothing to count on the screen. It is an important step: the digit becomes a number, in its place in the sequence one, two, three, four, five.

Each question shows two numbers from 1 to 5. The voice asks the child to choose the bigger number of the two. The child has a single try. Then the game shows the right answer straight away, with a simple explanation: “4 is bigger than 2: when we count, we say two before four.” A round has five questions.

The key tip lies in the counting rhyme. Indeed, the number said last is the bigger one. That is why you can say it together, holding up a finger for each number.

To go further, draw two cards from 1 to 5: who has the bigger number? What’s more, a numbered track helps to see the order of numbers. The game is for ages 5 to 6 and stays free on a computer, tablet or phone.

Tip for finding the bigger number

First, look at the two numbers. Then say their names out loud. Next, say one, two, three, four, five, holding up a finger each time. Listen carefully: which number do you say last? That’s the bigger one! Finally, choose it with your finger. For example, between 2 and 4, you say four after two.
