The assessment: two numbers from 1 to 5, choose the smaller one. The full result appears at the end.
This game closes the “compare” family with an assessment. This time, the child looks for the smaller number between two numbers from 1 to 5. The question is the reverse of the previous game. Yet it is often trickier: you have to think “small” when the eye readily looks for the big one.
The voice reads the instruction, then the child chooses a number. During the five questions, no help appears. Then the full result appears at the end of the round. This way, you see at a glance what the child masters on their own.
If mistakes come back, go over the order of numbers again. Indeed, the number we say first is the smaller one. For example, line up five numbered blocks and have your child touch them in order.
At home, a card game of war with cards from 1 to 5 works very well: this time, the smaller card wins the round. What’s more, the child can put a few cards in order, from one to five. This assessment is for the last year of preschool, ages 5 to 6. It is free on a computer, tablet or phone.
Look at the two numbers and say them out loud. Then count softly: one, two, three, four, five. Which number comes first? That’s the smaller one! For example, between 3 and 5, you say three before five. So you touch the 3. Nobody helps you during this game, but you can do it!
