Additions that make 10: mastering number bonds to 10

Number bonds to 10 are a pillar of calculation in the first year of primary school. Knowing that 7 and 3 make 10 later helps to cross the ten, for example for 8 + 5. This game trains the child on additions that make 10. That is why it is worth coming back to it often.

Each question shows an addition whose answer is 10. One of the two numbers is missing. The child types it in digits. The game reads the instruction aloud. A round has 8 questions, with a progress bar. What’s more, it is free practice: nothing goes up to the dashboard.

The hint suggests starting from the number you know, then counting on your fingers up to 10. The fingers you hold up give the missing number. The ten fingers of both hands are a great support. For example, show 6 fingers: how many are still down? Then swap roles.

This game is for the first year of primary school, for children aged 6 to 7. This way, additions that make 10 become facts known by heart. It is free on a computer, tablet or phone.

Tip for additions that make 10

Your two hands have ten fingers. First, start from the number you know. Then count on your fingers up to ten. For example, you start from seven: eight, nine, ten. You held up three fingers. The fingers you hold up are the missing number! Finally, write that number in the empty box.
