A piece is missing from the animal: choose the piece that fills the hole. Just for practice, with no grade.
Recognizing a circle, a square or a triangle is one of the big milestones of preschool. Here, the child does more than name the shape: they look for it in a hole. So they look at the edge, notice the sides or the points, then keep the picture in mind. This visual work later helps with puzzles, drawing and writing.
An animal appears with a piece cut out. Below it, a row of pieces is waiting. Your child chooses the piece that fills the hole: it has the same shape and the same pattern. Then a sentence explains the choice, for example: “The hole has three sides and three points: the triangle-shaped piece fills it.”
It is a practice game, with no grade. This way, your child can look for the missing shape as many times as they like. A round has five questions, read aloud.
To go further, bring out a shape sorter or a wooden inset puzzle. You can also cut a circle, a square, a triangle and a heart out of cardboard: your child puts each missing shape back in its hole. The game is for preschool, ages 3 to 6. It is free on a computer, tablet or phone.
Look carefully at the hole in the animal. Trace its edge with your finger. Is it completely round? Does it have points? Then look at the pieces, one at a time. Find the one with the same shape and the same pattern. Finally, choose it: it fills the hole! For example, a hole with three points needs a triangle.
