Once the gesture is understood, it has to be repeated often. That is what this game is for: counting from 1 to 3 in preschool, without pressure. The child makes the same gesture as in the game with the number line. But this time, the number line disappears. So they have to rely on their own counting rhyme and their finger.

The game has five questions. A voice reads the instruction: “Count the objects, then choose the right number.” The child touches each object, says the numbers, then chooses the number. There is no grade: nothing goes back to the dashboard. So the child can make mistakes without fear and start again as often as they like.

This repetition makes counting automatic. To support it, count for real at home: the plates on the table, the stairs, the cars. Then let your child count from 1 to 3 on their own, and check together. Also praise the gesture more than the result.

The game is for preschoolers aged 3 to 5. It is free online, on computer, tablet or phone.

Tip for counting from 1 to 3 on your own

Here, there is no number line to help you. So your finger becomes your helper! Touch each object only once. Say loudly: one, two, three. Then listen to the last number you say. It tells how many there are. Did you make a mistake? That’s OK, you can play again.
