About this game

Count marbles, from 1 to 6, and choose the right number. The right answer appears after each question.

Count the marbles to 6: recognize the faces of a dice

In this game, the child has to count the marbles to 6. The marbles are arranged like the faces of a dice. For example, six marbles make five and one more. This way, the child learns to see a small quantity quickly, without counting everything again. This skill supports counting in the last year of preschool.

The game has five questions. First, a voice reads the instruction. Then the child counts the marbles and chooses the right number. They have only one try. Straight afterwards, the game shows the right answer. So the adult sees where the child stands, question after question.

To go further, take out a real dice. Roll it, then ask how many dots it shows. Next, put as many marbles or beads on the table. Finally, write the number together. Going back and forth between dots, objects and number builds confidence. You can also arrange six beans in two ways, in a line then like a dice, and ask whether the number changes.

This game is for children aged 5 to 6, in the last year of preschool. It is free online, on computer, tablet and phone. Next, you can move on to marbles up to 10.

Tip for counting the marbles without missing any

First, look at how the marbles are arranged. They look like the dots on a dice! Then touch each marble with your finger, only once. Say the numbers out loud. The last word you say is how many marbles there are. Next, choose that number. Well done, you are counting better and better!
