About this game

Count animals, from 5 to 10, then write the number in digits. Just for practice, with no grade.

Write the numbers to 10 without the number line

Knowing how to write the numbers to 10 is a milestone at the end of preschool. In this game, the number line disappears. So the child has to remember how each digit is written. They also discover that 10 is written with two digits, a 1 and a 0. This remark prepares for place value in the first year of primary school.

A game has five questions. First, a voice reads the instruction: “Count the animals. Then write the number.” Next, the child counts groups of 5 to 10 animals. Finally, they write the number in digits. They practise freely, with no grade, and a progress bar follows how they are doing.

At home, try a little quantity dictation. For example, show seven fingers and ask your child to write the number on a slate. Then swap roles: your child writes a number and you show the quantity. This way, they link writing the numbers to 10 with real quantities.

This game suits children aged 5 to 6, in the last year of preschool. It is free on computer, tablet and phone.

Tip for writing the number up to 10

First, touch each animal with your finger, only once. Say the numbers at the same time. Then listen to the last number. It tells how many there are. Next, write it. Be careful: for ten, you write two digits, a 1 and then a 0. Finally, check by counting again slowly, one animal at a time.
