About this game

Two groups of dots to compare: choose the one that has more.

The group that has more: discovering the word “more” in preschool

Understanding the word “more” is not obvious. Indeed, a young child often looks at the space the objects take up, not at their number. This game helps them find the group that has more with a real method. It is an important goal for children aged 4 to 6.

On the screen, two groups of dots appear. The voice asks the child to choose the one that has more dots. Then the game explains the answer: “Three is more than two.” A round has five questions, with a progress bar.

Two methods work. First, the child can count each group and compare the numbers. Otherwise, they can match the dots one by one with their finger: where dots are left over, there are more. Show them both, with counters or bottle caps.

To go further, share cookies into two unequal piles and ask which pile has more. What’s more, vary the objects: small ones and big ones, to avoid the size trap. The game is free on a computer, tablet or phone.

Tip for finding the group that has more dots

Touch each dot with your finger, only once, and say the numbers out loud. Do the same for the other group. Then compare your two numbers. The bigger number wins! You can also make pairs: one dot here, one dot there. Where dots are left over, there are more. Finally, choose that group.
