About this game

Three pictures: two are the same color, one is different. Choose the odd one out. The right answer appears after each question.

Find the picture in a different color: the odd one out in preschool

Spotting the odd one out is a great observation exercise. Here, the clue is the color. Out of three pictures, two share the same color and one has a different color. To find it, your child names each color, compares, then keeps the one that is not like the others. This sorting work is practiced in the first two years of preschool, from ages 3 to 5.

The voice reads the instruction, then three pictures appear: a bell, a book, a lemon… Your child chooses the picture in a different color. They have a single try per question. Then the game shows the right answer straight away, with a sentence: “Two pictures are yellow. Only one is blue: that’s the different one.” A round has five questions, with a progress bar.

The hint suggests saying the color of each picture out loud. This way, the child does not answer too fast. If they make a mistake, reread the explanation together and point to each picture.

At home, line up three objects, two of the same color, and ask your child to find the different one. Then switch roles! The game is free on a computer, tablet or phone.

Tip for finding the picture in a different color

Look at the three pictures, one at a time. Say the color of each one out loud: “yellow… yellow… blue!” Two pictures have the same color. The third one is not like the others: that’s the one to choose. Take your time and check each color before you touch.
