About this game

Count animals, from 5 to 10, then choose their number on the number line up to 10.

Count to 10: digit, dots and word on the number line

To count to 10, the number line is a precious support. Each box brings together three ways of writing a number: the digit, the dots and the word. After 6, the dots are grouped on a domino. This way, a child in the last year of preschool sees that 7 is 5 and 2 more. This visual landmark prepares for calculation in the first year of primary school.

The game starts straight away with five questions. First, a voice reads the instruction. Then the child counts groups of 5 to 10 animals. Next, they choose their number on the number line. A progress bar moves forward with each answer, without any sound.

Before or after the game, put up a number line from 1 to 10 at your child’s eye level. For example, count ten steps as you climb the stairs, then point to 10 on the line. Also recall the cardinal principle: the last number said gives the quantity. This routine makes the number line familiar for counting to 10.

This game is for children aged 5 to 6, in the last year of preschool. It is free on computer, tablet and phone.

Tip for counting to 10 without getting lost

First, touch each animal with your finger, only once. At the same time, say the numbers: one, two, three… all the way to the end. Then remember the last number you say. Next, find it on the number line. Look at the digit, the dots and the word. Finally, choose the right box. Well done, you can count to 10!
