Addition and subtraction to do in your head, within 100: the numbers change every round. Type the answer or pick it.
Mental maths means finding an answer in your head, without writing the sum down. Between the ages of 6 and 9, children first learn to add and subtract within 10 and 20, then within 100, with and without regrouping. This game practises these sums in the order they are taught at school.
Each round has ten questions: sums to type, answers to pick out of four, and two short word problems about marbles and stickers. The numbers change every round, so your child can play again without meeting the same questions. When an answer shows a common mistake, the game names it, for example a forgotten regrouping, and your child tries again. A progress bar follows their answers.
This game is for children aged 6 to 9. It is free on computers, tablets and phones.
To work out 8 + 5 in your head, first make 10: 8 + 2 = 10. There are 3 left to add: 10 + 3 = 13. For 47 + 25, add the tens first: 47 + 20 = 67, then the ones: 67 + 5 = 72. To subtract, take the same path backwards. Say your steps out loud: you will not forget anything.
