Hide one bead in the middle of a necklace and a seven-year-old will usually guess it by looking at its neighbors. Sometimes that works, and sometimes it does not. This 2nd grade missing shape patterns worksheet asks for a sturdier method: find the rule first. Eight repeating patterns fill the page, built from hearts and stars, moons and circles, and each row has one or two dotted gaps. Your child works out the pattern rule, then draws the shape that belongs on each dotted line. The gaps sit at the end of some rows and in the middle of others, so guessing from the last shape is not enough. A second page gives the answer key.
