3rd Grade 2 Times Table Worksheet: 18 Doubling Facts in Columns

Ask a child for double 7 and the answer often comes fast. Ask for 7 × 2 and the same child may start counting on fingers. This 3rd grade 2 times table worksheet joins the two ideas. It lists 18 facts in columns, labeled a to r, with numbers from 0 to 20. A girl on a skateboard rides along the top of a purple grid. Every answer is one of the even numbers, which gives a handy check. A second page gives the answer key.

Times 2 is a double

Multiplying by 2 means two equal groups. 9 × 2 is 9 and 9 again, so it is the same as double 9. Children who know their doubles facts already know this table.

The teen numbers are where it slows down. For 17 × 2, split it: double 10 is 20, double 7 is 14, and together they make 34. The same move works for 13, 18 and 19.

At the table: the even check

Every product on this page ends in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8. If your child writes an odd number, something went wrong, and they can spot it alone.

Items m and n, 0 × 2 and 1 × 2, are easy to rush. Two groups of nothing make 0. Two groups of one make 2, not 1.

After the page: pairs at home

Look for pairs around the house: socks in the drawer, shoes by the door, wheels on a bike. Say a number of pairs, and your child answers with the total.

Finish with item q, 20 × 2. It shows that the 2 times table keeps going past 10. Then check each column multiplication fact with the answer key on page two.
