3rd Grade 5 Times Table Worksheet: 18 Column Facts Ending in 0 or 5
Most children can count by fives long before they meet multiplication. This 3rd grade 5 times table worksheet builds on that. It has 18 facts in columns, from 0 × 5 to 33 × 5, labeled a to r. A girl in a purple hoodie runs past the title. The answers follow a clear pattern, so children can check each one as they go. A second page gives the answer key.
Why 0 and 5
Skip counting by 5 goes 5, 10, 15, 20. The ones digit only ever shows 5 or 0. An even number times 5 ends in 0, and an odd number ends in 5.
So 7 × 5 ends in 5 and 8 × 5 ends in 0. If an answer ends in 3, it needs another look.
At the table: half of 10
Multiplying by 5 is half of multiplying by 10. For 16 × 5, think 16 × 10 = 160, then take half: 80.
Items n, p and q (33 × 5, 24 × 5 and 31 × 5) go above 100. They stretch beyond the third grade facts. Half of 10 makes them doable: 24 × 10 is 240, and half of that is 120.
After the page: clocks and nickels
Use a clock. Each number on the face stands for 5 minutes, so the 4 means 20 minutes past. Point at a number and ask for the minutes.
Nickels work too: 7 nickels make 35 cents. Then come back to the column multiplication facts and check them with the answer key.
