3rd Grade Times Tables 6 to 9 Worksheet: True or False Check

The 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables are the hardest part of third grade multiplication. This 3rd grade times tables 6 to 9 worksheet checks them in a gentle way. Children read 12 facts, labeled a to l, and tick true or false for each one after they work out the product on their own. A boy in an orange shirt stands by the title, and a girl peeks up from the bottom. Seven facts are right and five are wrong, so guessing does not pay. A second page gives the answer key.

Work out, then judge

The safe method is to cover the answer, work out the product, and only then compare. For 9 × 7, your child finds 63 first, sees the match, and ticks true.

Marking a fact false is only half the job. Ask your child to say the right product as well, so that the page ends with a true fact in mind. In item d, 8 × 3 is 24, not 18. These harder times tables stick better when the correct fact is said out loud.

At the table: the near misses

Several wrong facts sit close to the truth. Item g, 6 × 6 = 46, changes one digit of 36. Item k, 8 × 5 = 39, is one away from 40, and a fact times 5 ends in 0 or 5.

Item f, 9 × 4 = 32, borrows the answer of 8 × 4. Item l, 6 × 10 = 50, mixes up two tables, since 50 belongs to the 5 times table and 60 to the 6 times table. The other multiplication facts, such as 7 × 8 = 56, are true. A few items use 3 or 10 as a factor and give quick points.

After the page: build fact families

Pick one true fact, like 6 × 7 = 42. Your child writes its fact families: 7 × 6 = 42, 42 ÷ 6 = 7 and 42 ÷ 7 = 6. Division is part of third grade too, so the whole family fits.

Then write three new facts of your own, one of them false, and swap roles so your child becomes the one who checks. Check every tick with the answer key on page two.
