How Many Fingers? Count Nine Hand Pictures and Color the Right Number
Fingers are the counting tool every child carries everywhere. This Pre-K counting fingers up to 10 worksheet turns them into nine small puzzles. Each box shows one or two hands, and the child counts the raised fingers. Under each picture, three numbers sit in a row. The child picks the right one and colors it in. The first box is already done: four fingers, with the 4 shaded in yellow. After that, the child works alone, from a single finger to two open hands.
Nine hands, nine amounts
The boxes mix easy and harder hands on purpose.
Some show one hand only: one finger, two fingers, or five. Others pair a full hand with a second one, for example five and one, or five and four. The last box shows two open hands, so ten fingers.
One box holds just a closed fist. It quietly teaches zero as a number: no fingers up still has an answer, and that answer is 0.
Count one hand, then keep going
Two-hand boxes are the real challenge, so a short routine helps.
- Look at the open hand first and say "five" without counting.
- Then count on along the second hand: six, seven, eight.
- Find that number among the three boxes below.
- Color the correct number in, then move on.
Thinking of five and some more is faster than counting from one. It also prepares the child for adding later.
Mirror game with real hands
Hands on paper become even more useful when the child copies them.
Before coloring, ask the child to make the same shape with real fingers. Then count together. Next, swap roles: you hold up fingers, and the child names the number.
These hand signs work anywhere, in a car or a waiting room. As a result, the child learns two ways to answer: color the correct number on paper, or show it in the air.
