3rd Grade Dividing 2-Digit Numbers by 6 Worksheet: Bring Down Steps

Sixes take a little more effort than fives, so this page gives steady practice. The 3rd grade dividing 2-digit numbers by 6 worksheet has six problems: 18, 60, 24, 48, 54 and 66, each shared by 6. Each item is a division with no remainder, and the answers run from 3 to 11. A small red parrot with a yellow beak watches from the bottom of the page. Page two shows the full working in a long division bracket for each item.

The bring down step

Four items are plain division facts from the 6 times table, like 18 ÷ 6 = 3 and 54 ÷ 6 = 9. Items b and f need two steps. In 66 ÷ 6, children first share the 6 tens: 6 goes into 6 once, so 1 goes on top. Then they bring down the next 6, share it again, and write another 1. The quotient is 11.

Item b, 60 ÷ 6, follows the same path. After the 6 tens, the 0 ones are brought down, and 0 ÷ 6 = 0, so the answer is 10, not 1.

At the table: a quick test for sixes

A number can be shared by 6 when it is even and its digits add up to a multiple of 3. For example, take 48: it is even, and 4 + 8 = 12. Your child can also run this test on all six numbers before starting.

The long division method comes from the fourth grade program, so expect some slow work here. The answer lines on page two are left blank. Instead, the results appear only in the brackets and on the "So, ..." lines.

After the page: egg boxes of six

Use egg boxes, or draw them, to share 24 eggs into boxes of six. Your child counts 4 full boxes, which matches item c. Then switch roles and let your child set a problem from the 6 times table for you to solve. Check every answer against the answer key on page two.
