3rd Grade Matching Divisions to Their Quotients Worksheet: 20 Facts

Every division has one answer, called the quotient, and several divisions can share it. This 3rd grade matching divisions to their quotients worksheet has four sets, labeled a to d, with 20 divisions in all. Each divisor is 6, 7, 8 or 9. Below each set sit three or four boxes, such as "Equal to 5" or "Equal to 9". Your child works out each division and writes it in the box that matches. A boy runs happily across the top of the page. On page two, set a is explained one division at a time, and then every box is filled in.

Two empty boxes on purpose

Some quotients come up again and again. In set d, 42 ÷ 7, 36 ÷ 6 and 48 ÷ 8 all equal 6. Likewise, 63 ÷ 7 and 72 ÷ 8 both equal 9. That makes this sorting practice a good way to see many division facts at once.

Two boxes stay empty: "Equal to 2" in set a and "Equal to 4" in set c. A careful child may think a fact is missing, so say beforehand that a box can stay empty. Set a also mixes in easy facts, like 80 ÷ 8 = 10 and 9 ÷ 9 = 1.

At the table: quotient first, box second

Ask your child to write the quotient in small digits above each division before sorting it. For example, 28 ÷ 7 gets a small 4, and 32 ÷ 8 gets a 4 too, so both go in the same box. As a result, the sorting itself takes only a moment.

The key on page two has some odd wording, such as "placed on the box" and "Fourthly", and a stray comma after 9 ÷ 9. Even so, every division sits in the right box, so it remains a reliable answer key.

After the page: quotient cards

Write the numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9 on four cards. Then call out division facts, such as 54 ÷ 9 or 56 ÷ 7, and your child points to the right card. Speed up as the answers get quicker. Finally, compare the four sets with the key on page two.
