3rd Grade Choose the Multiplication Sentence Worksheet: Tick the Right Fact

Which sentence tells the story of the picture? This 3rd grade choose the multiplication sentence worksheet links equal groups to a fact. Five models show dots, triangles, hearts and beads. Under each one, four multiple choice sentences compete. Your child counts the groups, then the items in one group, and ticks the match. Page two shows the ticks.

The first number is the easy part

In most items, all four choices begin with the number of groups. In item 2, they all start with 8. So the real question is the second number: how many in each group?

Item 5 breaks the habit with 4 × 5. Six frames of 4 beads give 6 × 4.

Count one group carefully, then check a second one.

At the table: count, then multiply

Ask your child to say the sentence aloud: "8 groups of 2 is 8 × 2."

Then find the total by skip counting: 2, 4, 6, up to 16.

Item 4 has 12 dots in each box, past the facts to 10. Let your child count the rows: 3 rows of 4 make 12.

Wrong answers teach too

Pick a wrong choice, like 5 × 1 in item 3. Ask: "What would that picture look like?" Your child can draw 5 hexagons with one heart each.

Drawing the wrong sentence shows why the right one fits.
