3rd Grade Finding Quotients by 8 Worksheet: From 8 to 96
The quotient is the answer to a division, and this page asks for six of them. The 3rd grade finding quotients by 8 worksheet divides 8, 80, 32, 48, 88 and 96 by 8. The answers run from 1 to 12, and each one is a division with no remainder at the end. A grinning brown cartoon animal sits at the bottom of the page. Page two writes each quotient on the line and shows every long division bracket in full.
The one tricky problem
First, five items are short. Facts like 32 ÷ 8 = 4 and 48 ÷ 8 = 6 come straight from the 8 times table, and 80 ÷ 8 = 10. Item f, 96 ÷ 8, is the real challenge of the page. Eight goes into 9 once, with 1 left over.
That 1 ten joins the 6 ones to make 16, which is the bring down step of the long division method. Since 16 ÷ 8 = 2, the quotient is 12. However, the key writes the last remainder as "00", where a single 0 would be clearer.
At the table: halve three times
Dividing by 8 means halving three times in a row. For 96, half is 48, then 24, then 12. Your child can then use this trick to check item f without the bracket, which also shows why the answer has to be 12.
Item a, 8 ÷ 8 = 1, and item e, 88 ÷ 8 = 11, make good confidence boosters. Long division is part of the fourth grade program, so this page stretches a third grader. Therefore, allow some extra time for item f.
After the page: legs and spiders
A spider has 8 legs, a fun fact that turns into a problem. If you count 48 legs, how many spiders are there? Your child divides 48 by 8 and finds 6, just like item d. Then compare each quotient with the answer key on page two.
