3rd Grade Four Operations Review Worksheet: 12 Mixed Problems

Switching between operations is a skill of its own. This 3rd grade four operations review worksheet has twelve problems, labeled a to l, and the sign changes from one to the next. Two are additions, three are subtractions, four are multiplications and three are divisions. Most are set out in columns, while the divisions sit in a long division bracket. The instruction is short: "Solve the following". A kitten in a pink tutu dances at the top, and a bunch of flowers sits at the bottom. Page two writes every answer in pink.

Look at the sign first

The answers run from 0 to 474. The four multiplications give 147, 100, 450 and 474. Two of them, 21 × 7 and 79 × 6, multiply a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number, which most schools teach in fourth grade. So treat them as a stretch, and allow a little more time.

The divisions are 0 ÷ 12 = 0, 35 ÷ 5 = 7 and 72 ÷ 8 = 9. Item d often surprises children: zero shared among 12 groups still gives zero. The page title says "facts". Yet items such as 99 + 12 need column addition with regrouping. So they ask for more than quick recall.

At the table: color the signs

Before starting, ask your child to circle every sign with a colored pencil, one color per operation. That simple step slows the eye down. As a result, it prevents a common mistake: adding where the page says to subtract. Then let your child solve the problems in any order.

For column subtraction, such as 81 − 12, remind them to start with the ones and regroup a ten. For column multiplication, 79 × 6 can also be checked with 80 × 6 = 480, minus 6, which gives 474.

After the page: the sign cards

Write +, −, × and ÷ on four small cards and put them face down. Your child picks one, then you both make a problem with that sign and solve it. Then compare your answers. Last of all, check the twelve problems against the answer key on page two.
