3rd Grade Divide by 2 Worksheet: Long Division with Even Numbers

Dividing by 2 means splitting a number into two equal parts, so every answer on this page is half of the starting number. This 3rd grade divide by 2 worksheet gives six even numbers from 10 to 24, labeled a to f. For each one, your child writes the quotient on the line. Then the long division goes in the grid below it, and none of the six has a remainder. A note at the top gives the key idea: to divide by 2, find half of the number. In the corner, a boy kicks a soccer ball, as on the page for dividing by 1. The second page is an answer key with every long division worked out.

Half of the number

Sharing into two equal groups is the same as finding half. If 14 apples go into 2 baskets, each basket gets 7 apples, so 14 ÷ 2 = 7. You can check with a double: 7 + 7 = 14.

All six numbers are even, so halving always works out with no remainder. For example, item c shows that half of 20 is 10.

About the long division

The page asks for the long division method. In the US standards, long division is a 4th grade skill, while division facts like these belong to 3rd grade. So if the layout is new for your child, start with the facts. Say the half out loud first, and then show how the long division gives the same answer.

In item d, 24 ÷ 2, your child halves 2 tens to get 1 ten. Next, half of 4 ones is 2 ones, so the quotient is 12.

After the page: check together

First, compare each answer with the answer key on page two, and talk through any long division that went wrong. Next, ask for the matching multiplication: 9 × 2 = 18 proves that 18 ÷ 2 = 9. Finally, pick an even number between 10 and 24 that is not on the page, and let your child halve it out loud.
