3rd Grade Copying Shape Patterns Worksheet: 4 Rows to Redraw
A pattern is a rule that repeats, and copying it well means seeing that rule. This 3rd grade copying shape patterns worksheet has four rows, numbered 1 to 4. Row 1 swaps blue and orange bars, row 2 swaps circles and triangles, and row 3 swaps red and green diamonds. Row 4 repeats a star, a square and a circle. Under each row, an empty box waits for the copy, and your child draws the same shapes in the same order there. Page two shows every box filled in, and although the title also promises growing patterns, this page has only repeating patterns.
Four repeating patterns
Rows 1 to 3 are AB patterns, so two items swap all along the row. Row 1 changes only the color and row 2 changes only the shape, while row 3 also changes only the color, with red and green diamonds. Row 4 is an ABC pattern with three shapes, which is a step up.
Copying a pattern is usually a kindergarten or first grade skill, so for a third grader, this page is a quick warm-up. Third grade patterns are mostly about numbers, such as adding 4 each time. Therefore, you can add a number pattern after the copy, as shown in the last part.
At the table: name the pattern first
Before drawing, ask your child to name each row with letters. Blue, orange, blue, orange becomes A, B, A, B, and star, square, circle becomes A, B, C. Then they count the items, nine in row 1 and eight in row 2. As a result, the copy has the right length as well as the right order.
The page has two small slips. The instruction has no period after "in the space provided", and at the bottom, the copyright line overlaps the edge of box 4. Neither slip changes the task.
After the page: from shapes to numbers
Make a pattern with spoons and forks on the table, and your child copies it. Then turn the pattern into numbers: 2, 4, 6, 8. Ask your child for the rule and the next number. Next, try a growing pattern, such as 3, 6, 9, 12. Finally, compare the four boxes with the answer key on page two.
